Troopers respond to more than 200 crashes, 100 spinouts on Saturday

The weather caused numerous issues for drivers after snow fell in Minnesota.

MINNEAPOLIS — Blowing snow and icy roads on Saturday night proved to be hazardous for hundreds of drivers in Minnesota.

According to state patrol, between 9 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9 and 9 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 10, troopers responded to 238 crashes. Of those crashes, 30 involved an injury and one was fatal. State patrol also was on scene for 106 vehicle spinouts or vehicles off the road and two jackknifed semis.

Snow showers swept across much of the state Saturday, leaving ice and blowing snow in its wake. On Saturday, the North Dakota Department of Transportation closed a large portion of I-29 from Fargo to the Canadian border. The interstate has since reopened, but conditions in the area are still listed as "scattered ice."

Temperatures across Minnesota are expected to be warmer this week, with forecast highs in the 40s.
