BLAKELY, Minn. - Days of heavy rain has triggered the evacuation of a town in Scott County.
Scott County Emergency Management Director Chris Weldon says the decision was made to evacuate the town of Blakely was made when flooding made all but one lane of roadway in and out of town impassable. He says residents were cooperative, with all but a handful refusing to leave their homes.The town has an official population of 496, and is just southwest of Belle Plaine.
Right now there is no indication of how long residents will be kept out of the town.
Weldon says an evacuation was also ordered for Valley Green Mobile Home Park just outside Jordan, but residents refused, saying they would shelter in place instead. Water that was several feet deep and reaching the height of the mobile home doors began to recede early Thursday afternoon but pictures from SKY 11 showed significant flooding still remained.
Emergency officials made the decision to close County Roads 1, 51, 6, and 60 due to flooding or instability of the roadways. A stretch of Highway 169 was closed for most of the morning between the community of Carver in Carver County and LeSeuer.
