MINNEAPOLIS — Parts of Minnesota could see severe weather Saturday, as a string of powerful spring storms continues.
This season in Minnesota has already seen damaging storms. A tornado on April 12 leveled the small southern Minnesota town of Taopi. The system also delivered damaging hail to other areas and wind tipped over a number of semis on I-35 near Faribault.
Some basic tips from the National Weather Service can help you prepare for dangerous weather: They include having a severe weather plan, and getting to a safe area away from windows.
Here are some lesser-discussed tips:
1. Sign up for severe weather alerts. These can keep you informed of approaching storms, especially if you're outside or on the go. The KARE 11 app does a great job of keeping you informed of severe weather.
2. Have a weather radio. This is especially important when storms could hit while you're sleeping. You need a way to be alerted to wake up and move to safety.
3. Keep trees and branches near your house trimmed. This will lessen the potential for damage as storms hit.

If your vehicle gets damaged during a storm, the news is worse than usual.
Auto shops and dealerships are still struggling with getting parts due to supply chain issues, and staffing shortages may extend the time it takes to get your vehicle back.
