Snow, icy conditions lead to more than 180 crashes, 121 spinouts in Minnesota overnight

Nine of the crashes had injuries, but fortunately, none were serious or fatal.

MINNEAPOLIS — Overnight snow-coated roads across the region caused a slippery and scary morning commute on Halloween.

Between midnight and 9 a.m. Tuesday, the Minnesota State Patrol reported 181 crashes statewide.

Nine of the crashes had injuries, but fortunately, none were serious or fatal.

Additionally, the State Patrol says it responded to 121 spinouts and 13 jackknifed semi-trailers.

Meanwhile, the manager of road operations for Hennepin County gave KARE 11 a tour on Monday of the public works facility, where maintenance workers were fine-tuning a MACK snowplow in anticipation for the season's first sizable snow storm.

Hennepin County has 80 plow trucks in its fleet, ideally with a ratio of one operator per truck.

County officials said they've made job offers to three new plow operators, which would bring the team to full staff.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) has 1,600 plow operators for 800 routes statewide.
