Minnesota's drivers wake up to tire pressure warning light

"Every time the temperature drops 10 degrees, you lose one pound of pressure in your tires," said Marco Demello of Bobby & Steve's Auto World.

MINNEAPOLIS — Multiple tire shops around the Twin Cities reported lines at the air pump after a sharp dip in temperatures this week.

"Every time the temperature drops 10 degrees, you lose one pound of pressure in your tires," said Marco Demello, a service writer at Bobby & Steve's Auto World on Nicollet Avenue. "Today we had the entire parking lot line of people trying to use our hose."

Demello said his team has been busy winterizing cars.

"A lot of people come in with low tire pressure lights, heat issues," said Demello. "They haven't ran their heat all summer."

Paola Barrera came into the shop after her tire pressure light went on.

"I think it's the weather," she said. "We're always last minute to get everything ready for winter."

Cheryl Mclaud was among the many drivers at the Bobby & Steve's on France Avenue.

"It happens every year," she said. "Like clockwork."

Mechanics in the Twin City report they are busier than usual since the temperature dropped, but recommend folks make an appointment to check tires, heat, brakes and more before snow falls.
