More than 450 crashes reported statewide following winter snow event

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, 471 crashes were reported between 7 a.m. Wednesday and 1 p.m. Thursday, along with 381 spinouts or vehicles off the road.

MINNEAPOLIS — A rare snow event in an unusually mild winter made for some slick driving throughout the state, triggering more than 450 crashes, including some with injuries.

According to an update by the Minnesota State Patrol, 471 crashes were reported between 7 a.m. Wednesday and 1 p.m. Thursday, along with 381 vehicle spinouts and 14 jackknifed semi. Among the crashes, 32 resulted in injury, including two with serious or fatal injuries.

Snow began late Wednesday morning and continued until just after midnight in the Twin Cities, with parts of the metro getting more than 7 inches. A Winter Storm Warning was issued Wednesday night for Anoka, Chisago, Sherburne and Polk counties until early Thursday morning.
