HAYFIELD, Minn. — A tornado touched down in a field Monday evening as a strong storm system passed through southern Minnesota.
According to the Dodge County Sheriff's Office, the tornado touched down near Hayfield, Minnesota — about 25 miles southwest of Rochester. Officials with the sheriff's office confirmed the touchdown, adding that there were no reports of any injuries or damage.
Large hail — more than an inch in diameter — is being reported by the National Weather Service around Hayfield and Rochester.
According to KARE 11 Chief Meteorologist Belinda Jensen, this has been the quietest beginning of a severe weather season since 2006, but waves of storms, including the potential for some severe weather, will hit the state Tuesday.
