GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn — Well, it's here.
Snow is falling in Minnesota for the first time this season, and while there won't be much — if any — accumulation around the Twin Cities this weekend, there are some northern spots that could get several inches.
Thursday's snowfall stayed primarily in northwestern Minnesota — two inches being reported in Lake Bronson — prompting Winter Storm Warnings for Kittison, Roseau and western Marshall Counties until 7 a.m. Friday.
Friday is going to be the transition day into much cooler temperatures — mid 40s to upper 30s — with a chance for snow in the metro on Saturday afternoon. Any snow that does fall, however, will be on top of soil that's much warmer than freezing, so most snow should melt, with the exception of some grassy surfaces.
Minneapolis and Saint Paul Public Works are now gearing up, as both cities are in the middle of fall sweeps, clearing leaves off the streets before snow starts to collect.
