GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. — Still working on a last-minute Halloween ensemble? Consider a costume with a coat.
Tuesday's trick-or-treat forecast is shaping up to be one of the colder Halloweens we've seen in recent years.
According to KARE 11 meteorologist Ben Dery, temperatures will hover around freezing at trick-or-treat time with breezy winds.
The high for the spookiest day of the year is forecast to reach 38 and dip down to a low of 26 degrees.
It's actually not that uncommon for temps to drop below freezing on Halloween. Since 1872, data shows that 40% of the time, temperatures in Minnesota dipped to 32 degrees or lower on Oct. 31. However, this will likely be the coldest Halloween since 2019, when the high was 36 degrees and the low was 26.
The average high on Oct. 31 is 50 degrees, with the average low at 35.
And if you have the famous '91 Halloween Blizzard on the brain, as most of us do this time of year, don't hold out for any powder this time around. Only 4% of Halloweens since 1872 have recorded measurable snowfall, and only once in the last 30 years when we got half an inch in 1995.
