The possibility of heavy snow pockets with strong winds have triggered a Weather Impact Alert for the first half of Wednesday.

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. — The potential of heavy pockets of snow Wednesday morning has KARE 11's weather team issuing a Weather Impact Alert for the first part of the day.

KARE 11's John Zeigler says the time of greatest impact will likely be between the hours of 6 to 11 a.m. when pockets of snow showers could move from north to south along with a blast of cold air.

The snow will start in Alexandria and Brainerd around 4 to 5 a.m. and slide south into the Twin Cities metro through the late morning. While the snow pockets will be sporadic, they could be heavy for a brief time during the mid-morning commute.

Throw in winds of 30 mph or so and visibility could drop significantly, below one mile for those driving in the snow bands.

Zeigler says snow accumulations should be less than an inch.
