GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. — It's not just the ghouls, ghosts and goblins that promise to make Halloween 2024 a bit spooky.
The KARE 11 Weather Team has issued a Weather Alert for Thursday due to expected rain turning to snow in the morning hours in some areas of the state, potentially lasting into early afternoon.
KARE 11 Meteorologist John Zeigler said a weather system that was ushering in a cold front slowed down significantly in the models that came in Wednesday morning, adding additional rain but also allowing cold air to mix with the system a bit longer.
Here in the metro, we can expect that rain to change to snow during the 6 to 7 a.m. hour. Zeigler said the snow landing on relatively warm roads would make things wet and potentially slick, but accumulation is unlikely on paved surfaces. He added his main concern is that a burst of snow could lower visibility during morning rush hour.
The best chance for accumulating snow will be on a narrow band from St. Cloud to Duluth. The National Weather Service in Duluth has issued a Winter Storm Watch for Thursday, anticipating as much as 6 inches of snow north of Hinckley.
