WeatherMinds: Think there's always a heat wave during the Minnesota State Fair? Think again

In the last 30 years, Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport has hit 90 degrees or warmer on just 20 Minnesota State Fair days.

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn — If you attend the Minnesota State Fair year after year, you're familiar with how hot, steamy and crowded it can get around the fairgrounds.

And while many people might believe that more often than not, there's a stretch of really hot weather from the end of August to early September, it's actually a myth that there's always a heat wave during the fair.

In the last 30 years the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport has hit 90 degrees or warmer on just 20 Minnesota State Fair days.

So in the last 360 days at the fair, we've hit 90 degrees less than 6% of the time.

Now with a few exceptions, weather at the Great Minnesota Get-Together tends to be quite pleasant.

The average high for fair days varies between 76 and 80 degrees, the sky is typically bright blue due to lower moisture content in the air and less wildfire smoke, and generally, there are smaller chances for rain.

While this year looks hot on day one, looking ahead fair weather looks very comfortable.
