WeatherMinds: Peak fall foliage

The best places and times where you can find some fall foliage views

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. — Even if it means we're getting closer to frigid temperatures outside, yearly leaf color changes can be a beautiful signal that winter is coming in Minnesota.

With warm, sunny days in the forecast this week, we can expect leaf color to change rapidly. In fact, we are already running ahead of schedule across northern Minnesota.

Compared to the past two years there are far more areas at or past peak. Most of those are located in northern Minnesota. There are still quite a few green leaves in and around the metro, and the peak hasn't happened yet. That means that we'll still have more time to revel in nature's beauty and enjoy the fall colors!

Here in the Twin Cities, the date for peak color has been pretty consistent in recent years, which is normally Oct. 14.
