Winter storm blasting parts of Minn., Dakotas

A winter storm sweeping across the Dakotas and west central Minnesota has prompted road closures and a no travel advisory.

This includes I-94 from Moorhead to Highway 108, and Highway 10 from Moorhead to Wadena - plus these counties: Polk, Becker, Clay and northern portions of Otter Tail County.

The North Dakota Department of Transportation and North Dakota Highway Patrol have closed Interstate 29 from South Dakota to the Canadian border. 

Interstate 94 also is closed from Bismarck to Fargo due to heavy snow and high winds. A no travel advisory is out for parts of southeast, south central and northeast North Dakota. 

Fargo officials have issued a no travel advisory. 

The National Weather Service reports more than 6 inches of snow in Grand Forks. In South Dakota, officials have closed much of Interstate 90.

Eastbound I-90 was closed from Rapid City to Mitchell while westbound I-90 from Mitchell to Wall was closed Saturday night. 

The National Weather Service says 8 to 11 inches of snow already has fallen in south central South Dakota. 

Another 6 to 10 inches of snow could fall in the James River Valley before the storm moves on Monday. 

Officials say many roads in South Dakota are ice covered. 

Travel is discouraged unless absolutely necessary.
