GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. — KARE 11 is honored to be the recipient of the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) National Edward R. Murrow Award for Overall Excellence in Large Market Television.
RTDNA announced the winners on Thursday, recognizing outstanding broadcast and digital journalism from the 2023 calendar year.
This is the fourth National Edward R. Murrow Award for KARE 11; the station previously won the prestigious honor in 1997, 2001 and 2004.
"I am so happy KARE is being recognized nationally, for what I get to see firsthand every day – passionate journalists, invested in their communities, dedicated to telling meaningful stories that truly make a difference," said KARE 11 News Director Stacey Nogy.
“This is a proud moment for KARE 11 and our talented journalists who pour their heart into the newsroom every day. They care so deeply about serving our community through their work. I couldn’t be happier for them to receive this deserving recognition," said KARE 11 President and General Manager Doug Wieder.
In addition to the award for Overall Excellence, reporter Boyd Huppert won the National Edward R. Murrow Award for Writing, and photojournalists Chad Nelson and Mitchell Yehl were honored alongside Huppert with the National Edward R. Murrow Award for Excellence in Video in Large Market Television for the story Bitter Harvest.
Earlier this year, KARE 11 won 11 Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards, which went on to compete for the national honors.
