FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn — The Minnesota State Fair's 2024 season will go down in history as one of its most popular of all time.
On Sunday, 256,015 people came strolling through the opening gates shattering the record of 245,243 set back in 2019.
Sunday's attendance was the second-biggest crowd of all time at the fair.
The most attended fair day ever was the second Saturday of 2018 when 270,426 filled the fairgrounds.
This has been a record-setting season at the fair with attendance-busting days on the first two days, Thursday, Aug. 22, Friday, Aug. 23 — as well as Wednesday, Aug. 28 and Friday, Aug. 30.
Weather plays a significant role when it comes to daily attendance at the fair.
The five daily attendance records this year all happened on days with sunny skies and temperatures in the 70's.
Despite these five daily records it's unlikely 2024 will bring a new overall attendance record for the fair.
As of Sunday night around 1.7 million visitors stopped by the fair this year.
To break the record of 2.1 million visitors set in 2019, nearly 400,000 visitors would have to stop by the fair on Labor Day.
The daily record for Labor Day is 184,740 set in 2019.
