BLOOMINGTON, Minn. — The Mall of America has announced it will bring back its outdoor skating rink this winter.
The "Skate the Star" rink will be located near the mall's star sculpture outside the north entrance from December 14 through February 2.
Skating at the rink is free; skate rentals will be available for $5, with all proceeds going to the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Twin Cities. Last year's skate rentals raised $86,000 for the organization.
“Last year we saw the magic of Minnesota winters come to life through the 23,000 guests who came out to Skate the Star at Mall of America,” said Jill Renslow, SVP of Marketing and Business Development for Mall of America, in a press release. “We are thrilled to see thousands more lace up their skates with us this winter season and look forward to partnering with the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Twin Cities once again to help support all the amazing work they do for the community.”
Local company Minnesota Ice will build the 12,000 square-foot rink using 18,000 gallons of water.
