The Sunrise Shopping Showdown returns

Have someone who is hard to shop for? The Sunrise team and Mall of America can help with that.

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. — Everyone has that one person on their list they dread shopping for around the holidays. They have everything, or don't want anything, or are just plain picky.

The Sunrise team has a solution for that: The Sunrise Shopping Showdown

Our first contest winner was Allison Peterson, who was shopping for her mother. Allison's 90-year-old mother has Alzheimer's and lives in an assisted living apartment.

Allison says most of the time her mother doesn't remember their names, but can still remember that her family belongs to her. Her apartment is pretty small, and she doesn't really need or want anything new. Allison wanted to get her something different this year, and that's where the Sunrise anchors stepped in.

Winner number 2 was Sara Heureux, who needed some help shopping for her 11-year-old daughter Jenna.

Jenna has type-1 diabetes and other autoimmune diseases, so her everyday involves staying healthy and alive. All she told her mother she wanted for Christmas was donations to their local food bank. Sara is a teacher going back to school, so she doesn't have a lot of extra money for gifts this year.

The third and final winner was Deana Hoeschen, who needed help shopping for her husband. Deanna said they've been together in raising their six children, through multiple surgeries and health problems, and after it all he is still her rock. But she was unsure what to do for him, as he's the kind of person who never asks for anything.
