ST PAUL, Minn. — A St. Paul man is facing decades behind bars after allegedly stabbing a man Sunday night.
Police said officers were called to an apartment building at 313 Dale St. N. Sunday night at about 6:15 p.m., where a man was found in a hallway with what appeared to be puncture wounds to his chest. Officials said the victim, identified as 70-year-old Lester Haynes, was pronounced deceased at Regions Hospital.
Authorities said the suspect, 64-year-old Robert Lauerne Ramsey, was arrested at the scene.
According to the charges filed in Ramsey County on Monday, Haynes had people over Sunday night to watch football. The criminal complaint said those witnesses told authorities Ramsey came by the apartment and argued with Haynes about money.
Ramsey and Haynes were seen on hallway surveillance video physically fighting one another, court documents state. The fight ended with Ramsey allegedly pushing and then stabbing Haynes as he fell to the floor. When Haynes tried to get back up, the criminal complaint said Ramsey stomped on his chest and kicked him in the head.
If convicted, Ramsey faces up to 80 years in prison for two counts of second-degree murder — with intent-not premeditated, and with intent-while committing a felony.
