Man charged in St. Paul New Year's Day murder

Trayvon Titus Anderson was charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of Carl Anthony Dobbs Jr.

A 30-year-old St. Paul man has been charged in St. Paul's first homicide of the year.

Trayvon Titus Anderson was charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of Carl Anthony Dobbs Jr.

A post on the department's Twitter account says Anderson was arrested Friday near the intersection of Como and Jessamine Avenues.

Squads were dispatched to the 900 block of University Avenue West near Chatsworth Street North just after 2 a.m. New Year's Day. Once on scene officers found a man sitting in the driver's seat of a vehicle with serious injures from a gunshot wound.

A neighbor told KARE 11 he heard 10 shots and ducked down in his home early in the morning.

The victim, who was later identified as Dobbs Jr., was pronounced dead at the scene.

"This isn't the way we wanted to start 2020," St. Paul Police spokesperson Steve Linders said. "It's disappointing, but we know that our resolve is strong as ever to resolve this issue."

SPPD says they've been working hard to curb violent crimes ever since homicide numbers doubled from 15 in 2018 to 30 in 2019.

"We're well-versed investigating these types of incidents because last year we had 30, and what we like to think is that we can turn the page on what was a violent year and move on from that," Linders said. "For us, the hard work addressing the violence related to guns doesn't begin or end with the calendar year."

Minneapolis Police are also investigating the first homicide of the year in their city, a stabbing that took place New Year's Day just before 5 a.m.
