WOODBURY, Minn. — Two people were pulled from the water Monday after falling through the ice on Markgrafs Lake in Woodbury.
According to Woodbury police, a 911 caller reported a child went through the ice at about 4:30 p.m. First responders went to the scene, and police say other people present had also gone onto the ice to try and save the victim.
"All the sudden I heard a woman over this way, yelling 'go back go back,'" neighbor Bernice Burgy said. "It's just extremely difficult. Whoever they are, I hope they're okay. They are in my prayers."
Emergency personnel said the first person rescued from the water was trying to help, and not who was initially reported to have fallen in. The person the initial call was about, a teen boy, "was not able to be immediately rescued. He was later recovered by divers," police said.
Police told KARE 11 in a statement they do not know the current condition of both people in this incident. Officials added it is not believed anyone else fell into the lake.
Earlier in the day, Woodbury first responders made another water rescue on Wilmes Lake. Police said Minnesotans should be weary of ice on lakes and ponds.
