ST PAUL, Minn. — Christmas came early for one St. Paul Student.
And it all started with a school field trip.
Earlier this month, Akeem Brown and students from Gordon Parks High School attended a performance of SIX at the Ordway. Following the show, they were allowed to participate in a Q&A session with cast members.
Some of the actresses from the performance visited Gordon Parks High students. Andrea Macasaet who plays Queen Anne Boleyn and Samantha Pauly Queen Katherine Howard said they were blown away by Brown’s singing and piano playing. When they learned he could only practice piano at school, they gifted him with a keyboard.
“Talent like his should not be wasted, and we wanted to make sure he had the opportunity to practice and master his craft as often as possible,” they said. “It is vital for kids today to have unlimited access to art in all its forms. We just wanted to do something special for him this holiday season.”
Brown was moved to tears when he received the surprise along with a personal video message from Macasaet and Pauly.
Brown said he is grateful for the unexpected gift and plans to practice everyday from the comfort of the home he shares with his aunt.
