Busy weekend in Minneapolis as Timberwolves, Twins and concerts come to town

"Event-wise, everything looks fantastic," Marcus Dorn, manager at The Loon Café, said.

MINNEAPOLIS — Despite some colder weather than we'd like, it's shaping up to be a busy weekend in Minneapolis.

"Regardless of the weather, we're coming," said Nikki Wintheiser, a Minnesota Twins fan. "It would have been nicer if it would have been a few weeks ago when it was beautiful out, but, still a Twins game. It's still fun."

"Wasn't expecting it to be this cold," Nathan Wintheiser said.

Both the Twins and Timberwolves are in action Saturday, and plenty of artists will take the stage across the city. Mohamud Osman is one of many hoping to be inside Target Center as the Timberwolves host the Suns for playoff basketball.

"We'll see! It's very last minute, but, you know, I really want to go!" Osman said. "I have been looking forward to the playoffs this whole year, you know, just seeing the Wolves do so good. So now I definitely want to see how far they go and try to get into some of those games."

They're not the only ones looking forward to the weekend. Businesses, like The Loon Café, say it's good to see people back downtown.

"Event-wise, everything looks fantastic," said Marcus Dorn, manager at The Loon. "People coming downtown, that's what we need to see, and that's all these businesses down here. Whether you're a bar, restaurant, a hotel, a little boutique shop, everybody wants to see people walking streets in downtown Minneapolis."

Despite being four years removed from the start of the pandemic, issues are still lingering in their minds. It's why weekends like this are so good to see.

"People are gonna be happy to be down here, and it is something that, in a lot of ways, we haven't seen since pre-pandemic," Dorn said.

So, yes – the weather sure could have been warmer this weekend. Even with cooler temperatures, you won't hear many downtown complain about it.

"It's getting so much better," Osman said. "I remember how it was back in COVID, you know, and things are really bouncing back."
