APPLE VALLEY, Minn. — Absolute devastation for the family of Enzo Herrera Garcia.
"They have no idea what they did. No idea what they took from us," said the victim's sister Natividad Herrera Garcia. "Enzo was so good. And he didn't deserve any of it. All he ever wanted to do was protect the ones he loved."
The 21-year-old Apple Valley man was out Saturday night in downtown Minneapolis with his high school sweetheart Vianca Gonzalez.
"That was my best friend. My best friend. We dated for five years," Gonzalez said.
Minneapolis police say at about 10:30 p.m., a man fought with Enzo at the corner of 8th and Hennepin, shot him, got into a car and drove away.
Enzo's family said their grief is compounded by callous comments and assumptions on social media that Enzo did something to deserve getting shot.
"Enzo didn't deserve this," Gonzalez said.
Enzo's mother via Facetime from Mexico said they moved to Minnesota when Enzo was 2 to escape violence in that country.
Enzo's sisters say the Eastview High grad loved to dance. He loved cars, working at Napa Auto Parts in Apple Valley.
And they say he loved downtown Minneapolis.
"Enzo loved it. He loved the city. Everything about it. The people. Loved the restaurants. Said it was so much fun. He loved all of it," Natividad said.
"I'm just sad I couldn't save him as a big sister," Heyzel Herrera said.
Now, as they grieve, those who loved Enzo Herrera Garcia also want justice.
"We don't want them to do this to anyone else. We don't want to give them an opportunity to hurt another family like this," Natividad said.
Enzo's mother is currently looking for help to return to Minnesota from Mexico in time for her son's funeral.
Minneapolis police have arrested the man they say pulled the trigger. The Hennepin County Attorney's Office has until noon tomorrow to charge him.
