BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. — Residents of Brooklyn Park will no longer have to retire their soccer cleats or baseball bats every winter.

A huge new "sports dome" has its ribbon cutting on Monday, providing the public a place to get indoor exercise all year round. The dome is 400 feet by 230 feet, and has a full-size soccer field, three batting cages, and a walking track. There's also a lobby with restrooms.

It's located at 7300 Brooklyn Boulevard and will be inflated every year from approximately Nov. 1 to April 15.

The dome's turf field can be split in half and used as soccer, football, lacrosse and softball fields.

The walking track is protected by netting. It takes 4.75 laps to go one mile.

The Brooklyn Park Sports Dome will have a monthly schedule of open dome times where users pay an entry fee of $3. The walking track will be free during those times. Batting cages are an additional fee.

The dome can also be rented for $300 an hour during "prime hours" and $195 an hour during "non-prime hours."

More details about rentals and public access times can be found on the Brooklyn Park website.

The dome is built and operated by the City of Brooklyn Park and Osseo Area Schools.
