One of two million dollar raffle tickets sold in Delano

The Coborn's in Delano was the lucky store that sold the ticket to one lucky person.

DELANO, Minn. — Two Minnesotans became brand new millionaires after winning tickets were sold at a Delano grocery store and a Dundas gas station.

When someone wins the lottery, the store that sold the winning ticket usually gets a little bit of a prize as well. On Tuesday, the Coborn's in Delano was feeling the positive buzz from having learned that they sold a winning lotto ticket.

You'd never think it, but you could walk in for groceries, and walk out a millionaire.

"Fortunately we sold one of the million dollar lottery tickets here in Coborn's in Delano," store director Joe Tipka said. "Unfortunately we don't know who the winner is."

But Coborn's isn't losing out on anything.

"The store is awarded $5,000 for selling the ticket," Tipka said. "We're pretty excited about that and it's kind of a tip for us here at the store!"

Tipka explained that the money goes towards the store's general funds, but will also be used for holiday parties and prizes for the employees who made it all happen.

"Everyone's asking who is it who sold the tickets and unfortunately we don't know," Tipka said. "It's such a long time ago, a lot of buzz, a lot of people hoping that it's local, that someone in the community actually won the ticket."

And while lotteries are random, Coborn's may be a lucky charm, because it's not the first time they've sold large winning amounts in lotto tickets.

"The largest one was maybe a $50,000," Tipka said. "It's been quite a few years ago we ended up selling that one, so we have sold some larger ones but nothing to this magnitude."

Winnings may not always guaranteed but a smile sure is.

"You think about it, all the different prizes that are given out and all the different retail spots in the whole state of Minnesota and for two of them to be given out to us, yeah we feel pretty lucky," Tipka said.

What a way to start the year, knowing luck was at this Coborn's counter to start off 2024.
