Full report reveals that a driver tried to hit the shooter who killed a police officer

Callers told 911 operators that a driver hit the shooter after he assaulted someone on a scooter.

MINNEAPOLIS — The Minneapolis Police Department released the full report Thursday of the May 30 shooting that killed two, including MPD Officer Jamal Mitchell.

According to the MPD report, police initially responded to calls of an apartment shooting on Blaisdell Avenue around 5:15 p.m.

They learned Mustafa Mohammed, later identified as the shooter, fired rounds in an apartment, killing a man and injuring another. Mohammed then shot and killed Mitchell, and injured a police officer and firefighter and one bystander outside the building.

Records say the 911 caller reported a man had been shot in the head before telling the operator, "I got shot I need help... That guy shot me."

A few minutes later, another caller reported a man bleeding on the ground near 24th Street and Blaisdell and an additional two people lying in the road.

Authorities said Officer Mitchell arrived first on the scene and he confirmed that he saw two men injured on the street. He got out of his car and approached Mohammed, asking if he needed help.

BCA agents said Mohammed then pulled out a gun and shot Mitchell several times at close range.

A witness driving by also called 911 and reported that they intentionally hit a man assaulting another man on a motorized scooter near 22nd Street and Blaisdell. The caller thought he broke the aggressor's leg, but then saw the man pull a gun out from his waistband and start shooting.

The BCA stated that Mohammed fired at other officers as they approached. It was determined two Minneapolis police officers fired back at Mohammed, killing him.

Another victim was shot in the stomach and arm while they sat in their vehicle. They are expected to survive.
