State to redistribute uncashed tax rebate checks; here's what you should know

The state said it will send the nearly 150,000 checks in two waves, beginning as early as this week.

ST PAUL, Minn. — Editor's note: The video above first aired on KARE 11 in August 2023.

Minnesotans who didn't meet the deadline to redeem their state-issued tax rebate checks this year are getting another chance to cash in.

The Minnesota Department of Revenue announced Wednesday it will reissue uncashed checks that expired 60 days after they were first distributed in August and September. The state said it will send the nearly 150,000 checks in two waves, beginning as early as this week. The second batch of checks is expected to be distributed in early December.

State officials say recipients will have another 60 days to cash their checks before they become invalid.

Don't know what to look for? The Department of Revenue wants to remind recipients that their checks will arrive in a plain white envelope, marked by Submittable Holdings in Missoula, Montana. The checks will also carry the signature of Commissioner Paul Marquart.

If your reissued check goes unclaimed, the department says it will work with taxpayers again in early 2024.

Visit the Department of Revenue's website for more information about your one-time tax rebate check.
