MINNEAPOLIS — As we kick off 2024, the need for blood hasn’t faded with the holiday season – blood must be constantly replenished and ready for those in need of lifesaving care every day.
The American Red Cross is encouraging people to make a resolution to give blood in the new year. January is National Blood Donor Month and the Health Fair 11 Winter Blood Drive on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2024, is the perfect time to kick off a new resolution.
Sue Thesenga, the Regional Communications Manager with the American Red Cross, joined KARE 11 News at Noon on Thursday.
Thesenga said that due to seasonal illness and winter weather, donations often go down in January.
Also in the studio on Thursday was Kate Harahan, a blood recipient and donor. Kate became a blood donor advocate following a life-changing accident that required multiple surgeries and blood donations to help save her life.
The Health Fair 11 Winter Blood Drive takes place at the Minneapolis Marriott West hotel from 1:00-7:00 p.m. For more information, click here.
Appointments are strongly encouraged and are available now at RedCrossBlood.org. Enter sponsor code KARE11 or use the Red Cross Blood Donor App to schedule your appointment.
If you can't donate at the Health Fair 11 Winter Blood Drive, you can make an appointment to give blood in January.
