Crashes claimed the lives of two Minnesotans Wednesday, as drivers struggled to stay on the roads in the wintry conditions.
The Minnesota State Patrol recorded the first fatal incident just after 6 a.m. near Brunswick Township in Kanabec County. The driver of a Chevy Avalanche crossed the center line on Highway 65 and crashed into two cars traveling in the opposite direction.
The driver of the Chevy died and was identified as Richard Allen Kron, a 55-year-old from Grasston. Officials stated that Kron was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
One of the other drivers suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The second fatal crash claimed the life of a 20-year-old woman from International Falls. State troopersl said around 12:20 p.m., a Chevrolet Cruze lost control on Highway 64, crossing the center line and hitting a semi head-on.
Lillian Marie Laforge, a passenger in the Chevrolet, died. Officials stated she was not wearing a seatbelt.
The driver of the Chevrolet sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Last weekend's spring storm triggered hundreds of crashes and spin-outs across the state. The Minnesota State Patrol recorded two additional fatal crashes Sunday and Monday.
