LITCHFIELD, Minn. — A 26-year-old woman died after colliding with a freightliner Monday morning on Highway 12 near Litchfield.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the collision occurred shortly after 7:30 a.m. near mile marker 95. While it's unclear how the crash occurred, officials are reporting the roads were covered in snow and ice. The woman was identified as Miranda Castro of Litchfield.

Snow-covered roads are being reported throughout the state, and have caused hundreds of crashes, including dozens that resulted in injuries. Since midnight, the State Patrol reported 439 crashes — 24 with injures — 385 spinouts and 14 jack-knifed semis. The Winter Storm Warning has expired in the metro, but it remains in place for most of western and northern Minnesota. Parts of northeastern Minnesota are also under a blizzard warning until 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The latest snowstorm dumped a record 8.2 inches of snow at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport as most of the metro got between 7 and 11 inches. Another round is expected to hit the Twin Cities as the rain turns over into snow Tuesday.

According to KARE 11 Meteorologist Jamie Kagol, heavier snowfall will occur from the St. Cloud area toward Brainerd and Duluth.
