St. Paul police say the shooting occurred around 3:30 p.m. Sunday. The suspect fled the scene, but was arrested during a traffic stop just before 5.

ST PAUL, Minn. — St. Paul police say a post office employee is facing life-threatening injuries after being shot by a coworker Sunday afternoon while working. It happened Monday afternoon inside the post office near 7th Street and Alaska Avenue by St. Paul's Dawson Park.

When officers arrived, they found the employee suffered multiple gunshot wounds, and paramedics transported him to Regions Hospital. Police say they found the suspect near his home about an hour later and arrested him for suspicion of aggravated assault. No word yet on what led up to the shooting.

This comes as mail carriers held a rally outside a downtown Minneapolis location Monday demanding a new contract and better working conditions.

"The morale at the station is already low because the pay is too low," said USPS mail carrier Jorge Quintero. "But to have an event like this, you know, impact our everyday job… to feel unsafe at work makes that job all the more difficult."

"Everyone knows the term 'going postal,' and unfortunately, this is likely another situation where that's happened," said USPS mail carrier Tim Bash at the rally.

There is no word yet on what led up to the shooting. St. Paul police and the United States Postal Inspection Service are investigating. The case will be forwarded to the Ramset County Attorney's office once St. Paul police completes their investigation.
