MINNEAPOLIS — Editor's note: The video above first aired on Oct. 8, 2024.
We're one week out from this week's general election — do you have a voting plan?
It's now easier than ever to cast your ballot in Minnesota, even before the polls officially open on Election Day.
Late last week, Secretary of State Steve Simon's Office reported that nearly 566,000 absentee ballots have been accepted out of more than 800,000 distributed.
If you want to hop on that ballot bandwagon and save yourself from navigating crowds on Election Day, here's everything you should know.
You can request an absentee ballot online by clicking here, but it's worth noting that officials don't recommend doing so this close to Election Day.
To ensure your vote arrives on time and is successfully counted, officials say you should either vote in person at your local election office if possible or hand-deliver your completed absentee ballot no later than 8 p.m. on Election Day to the office that sent it.
You can also deliver your completed mail-in ballot at designated ballot drop box locations, which you can find here.
And in Minneapolis specifically, officials have expanded voting hours and locations to ensure each and every resident has ample access to voting resources. Click here to find a polling place and time that works best for your schedule.
A reminder: Before you're allowed to vote, you must be registered. While it's too late to register online for the 2024 presidential election, Minnesota allows eligible voters to register at their polling places on Election Day. Click here for more information about the registering process, or text 651-217-3862 to have your questions answered by an active election worker.
Happy voting!
