EAGAN, Minn. — Minnesota Vikings receiver Jordan Addison will be out Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers as he continues to recover from an ankle injury he sustained against the New York Giants.
Vikings coach Kevin O'Connell officially ruled him out Friday after missing his third straight practice.
"He's doing really well in his rehab. Don't have any kind of timeline on next week or anything like that, but he will be out (Sunday)," O'Connell confirmed Friday.
The second-year receiver suffered the injury in the third quarter of Sunday's season opener, and while the Vikings were still able to cruise to a 28-6 victory, O'Connell admitted after the game that his absence was felt by the offense.
"Jordan made some plays for us early on there, and then to lose him kind of affected a little bit of the flow there in the second half," O'Connell said.
Addison finished with three catches for 35 yards and drew a crucial pass interference penalty on the team's first scoring drive.
During a press conference Thursday, Vikings star receiver Justin Jefferson spoke about the possibility of playing without the team's No. 2 option, and the confidence he has in the other receivers on the roster.
"His (Addison) abilities to make plays is something that we're going to miss, of course, if he doesn't play," Jefferson said. "But, of course, we have (Jalen Nailor) also. We've have other guys in our room that can make plays also."
Jefferson missed last year's game with the 49ers, which turned out to be one of Addison's breakout games.
"J.A. had a huge game," Jefferson recalled. "That was pretty much the start of him being who he is today."
Addison finished that tilt with seven catches for 123 yards and a pair of touchdowns as the Vikings stunned the 49ers 22-17. Now, the team will look to Nailor, Brandon Powell, Trent Sherfield Sr. and Trishton Jackson to pick up the slack.
Nailor, a former sixth-round pick, has had limited opportunities since being drafted in 2022, but he emerged this offseason as one of the team's better options behind Jefferson and Addison. Last week, he hauled in a pass that went for a 21-yard score in the Vikings' first drive of the second half.
"I feel like countless times throughout training camp, we've seen him make plays all over the field, and that's the main reason we've been talking about this the whole entire training camp," Jefferson said. "We are confident in him to make those plays just like last Sunday, seeing him make plays and scoring touchdowns."
Vikings right guard Ed Ingram (tricep), right tackle Brian O'Neill (elbow) and safety Harrison Smith (hip) were listed as questionable in Friday's injury report.
