ST PAUL, Minn. — The Minnesota Wild say star forward Kirill Kaprizov is "week-to-week" after getting cross-checked in the back during Saturday's game in Winnipeg.
Kaprizov, who leads the team with 34 points, missed Sunday's game against the Jets with an upper-body injury, and will sit out Tuesday night's contest with the Calgary Flames.
The 26-year-old was injured in the third period on Saturday when Jets defenseman Brenden Dillon cross-checked him — twice — while battling for the puck in Winnipeg's zone. It appeared to be the second hit that caused the injury, as Kaprizov dropped to the ice and is seen wincing afterward. Kaprizov finished the shift but sat out the remainder of the game.
This is the second straight season Kaprizov was injured in a game against the Jets. Last year, he missed 13 games after Jets defenseman Logan Stanley fell awkwardly on him during a game in March.
After a slow start to the season, Kaprizov was red-hot entering the weekend. In his previous five games, he had five goals and nine points going into Saturday. Kaprizov, who has 13 goals and 21 assists this season, was also able to extend his point streak to six games with an assist on Saturday, despite missing majority of the third period.
Injuries are continuing to mount for the Wild as they placed goalie Filip Gustavsson on injured reserve on Monday, while forward Mats Zuccarello and defenseman Jonas Brodin continue to recover from upper-body injuries. The team also recalled forward Sammy Walker on Tuesday and placed forward Vinni Lettieri on injured reserve.
