ST PAUL, Minn. — Metro Transit police are investigating after a pedestrian was struck and killed by a bus early Wednesday.
Officials with Metro Transit told KARE 11 on the scene that the incident occurred around 12:45 a.m. on Ford Parkway near the intersection with Macalester Street. Transit police say a man was struck as he crossed the street in front of an A-Line bus.
The man was declared dead on the scene by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office. His identity will be released after an autopsy is completed and family is notified.
Officers blocked off the busy street while forensic team members gathered evidence. Ford Parkway was reopened shortly before 5 a.m., and bus routes and the morning commute are not expected to be impacted.
Metro Transit says the bus driver will be placed on leave while the investigation plays out, which is standard procedure in an incident like this.
This is the second pedestrian death involving a Metro Transit bus within a matter of weeks. A child was fatally struck on County Road 81 in Brooklyn Park the morning of Jan. 31. The boy had wandered out of his home and was hit on the busy road just before 6 a.m. when it was still dark.
