SOUTH ST PAUL, Minn. — A South St. Paul officer fired one shot at a man after officials say he allegedly pointed a gun at police who were responding to a call at an apartment complex Friday night.
According to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA), Officer Dylan Naffzinger with the South St. Paul Police Department fired his handgun as police were responding to a disturbance call on the 200 block of Grand Avenue West at about 10:15 p.m. Friday.
The BCA says two officers were inside a garage at the apartment complex when they claim a 54-year-old South St. Paul pointed a gun at them. The officers then left the garage through the lobby door. While the officers were standing outside, the main garage door opened and the man was still standing there. At one point, Officer Naffzinger fired his gun. Nobody was injured, and the man was taken into custody where he faces one charge of threats of violence with a replica or BB gun.
As police were arresting the man, officials say he slid over a laser pointer that was designed to be mounted to a gun. BCA personnel recovered the laser pointer, as well as a Black Ops .177 caliber Co2-powered pellet handgun. The officers were wearing body cameras, which captured the incident.
