St. Paul Police investigating homicide in South Como neighborhood

St. Paul Police received a call around 7:30 a.m. Friday reporting a man dead inside a home on the 900 block of Hatch Avenue.

ST PAUL, Minn. — Police are investigating after a man was found dead Friday morning inside a home in St. Paul's South Como neighborhood.

In a tweet Tuesday, the St. Paul Police Department identified the victim as 37-year-old Andrew Gutzman, of St. Paul. The department did not offer any additional updates.

According to the initial statement, St. Paul Police received a call around 7:30 a.m. reporting a man dead inside a home on the 900 block of Hatch Avenue. When officers arrived, they spoke with the 911 caller, who said a woman informed them that a man was dead inside the residence. When officers entered the home, they found Gutzman unconscious and not breathing. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

"We're going to work with the Ramsey County Medical Examiner to determine exactly what killed him," said St. Paul Police spokesperson Sgt. Mike Ernster at a press conference Friday afternoon. "There is a level of trauma to his person that does indicate that we believe this is a homicide, we just do not know exactly what caused his death yet. We'll be working to get those facts."

Additionally, while responding to the call, the initial statement said police shot and killed a dog inside the home. Ernster claimed it was because the dog bit an officer.

Authorities said no arrests have been made and didn't release any information about potential suspects.
