MINNEAPOLIS — Minnesota is flooded and waterlogged right now... but that isn't stopping some cities from planning spectacular fireworks displays.
Here's a look at some of the fireworks displays that are on — and which ones are off due to flooding and the forecast of inclement weather.
Fireworks and celebrations in the metro
Anoka — The city is holding its 26th annual fireworks display on July 3. The festivities begin at 5 p.m. with a cornhole tournament, petting zoo, pumpkin bounce house, food trucks, Anoka Legion alumni baseball game, celebrity kickball game, and a live music performance by Shirts & Skins. The fireworks display begins at 10 p.m. at Castle Field.
Apple Valley — Come early for the party, stay late for the fireworks! Apple Valley Freedom Days will occur July 4 with live music, food and festivities starting at 6 p.m. and fireworks at 10 p.m.
Blaine – The city of Blaine is planning a fireworks show at the National Sports Center at 10 p.m. on July 4; however, the city notes on its website that weather conditions could force a last-minute change that would be posted on the city’s social media pages.
Bloomington – The city of Bloomington will have fireworks on Wednesday, July 3 as part of Summer Fete 2024 happening from 5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at the Normandale Lake Bandshell. Organizers say the fireworks display “is one of the largest in Minnesota.”
Canterbury Park - The horse track in Shakopee has postponed its Hormel Foods 4th of July Celebration family activities until Sunday, July 7. Guests can take in a hotdog eating contest, wiener dog races, the inflatable pig obstacle course, pony rides and face painting. Horse racing will go on Thursday, July 4 as usual.
Chanhassen - The fireworks scheduled for July 4th have been postponed to July 12 at 10 p.m. at Lake Ann Park. The 2:30 p.m. parade planned for Friday is still on as of Wednesday, but may be rescheduled if there are thunderstorms, the city said.
Coon Rapids — The annual three-day celebration consists of rides, games, food and, of course, fireworks. The city's 4th of July Community Celebration will be held at Boulevard Plaza (11002 Crooked Lake Boulevard) with activities starting Tuesday. Fireworks are scheduled for Thursday, July 4 at 10 p.m.
Cottage Grove – The Cottage Grove Lions Club has rescheduled its Fourth of July picnic and fireworks at Kingston Park from July 4 to Sunday, July 7.
Eagan — After consulting with public safety personnel and pyrotechnics experts, the city of Eagan made the "difficult decision" to cancel the firework show set for the evening of July 4 due to inclement weather. Organizers say other Independence Day festivities at the festival grounds - located at 1501 Central Parkway - will continue as long as it is safe to do so. The fireworks are being rescheduled for Friday, Aug. 9, during the Eagan Food Truck Festival.
Edina — Celebrate Independence Day with a big parade and fireworks at Rosland Park. The parade starts at 10 a.m. at Edina's City Hall and is scheduled to end at 50th & France at 11:15 a.m. Fireworks begin at 10 p.m. and lasts approximately 25 minutes. The First John Sousa Memorial Band will perform before the show.
Eden Prairie – The self-proclaimed Best. Make-up Party. Ever! will take place Thursday, Aug. 22 at Round Lake Park. The "second-chance celebration" now includes a lakeside concert by Free & Easy Band at 7 p.m. with fireworks to follow. Food and beverage vendors will also be on hand.
The city canceled its 4th of July Hometown Celebration and fireworks earlier this month due to heavy rain in the forecast.
Excelsior — It's one of the more popular spots for fireworks-gazing from land or water. The Excelsior-Lake Minnetonka Chamber of Commerce hosts the only public fireworks event on Lake Minnetonka. The 4th festivities kick off on Wednesday, July 3, with fireworks over the lake at dusk (9:50 p.m.). On Thursday, the city will go on with its 7:30 a.m. Firecracker Run and kid's bike parade from 10 to 11 a.m. on Water Street. The day also includes live music, food trucks and a petting zoo.
Forest Lake – Forest Lake American Legion Post 225 announced the fireworks show scheduled for Thursday is canceled and will be rescheduled for a later date. The Facebook post added all other events are taking place as normal.
Lakeville – The city is planning a July 4 fireworks show starting at 10 p.m. at King Park. In a social media post, the city said any weather updates would be posted on the city’s website and social media pages.
Maplewood – The “Light it Up Maplewood” festival is scheduled for July 4 at Hazelwood Park featuring food trucks, family games, and fireworks at 10 p.m.
Mendota Heights – Fireworks are rescheduled for July 5 at dusk at Mendakota Park.
Minneapolis — Officials announced Thursday evening that the city's signature "Red, White and Boom" July 4th celebration is still on. Festivities start at 6 p.m. at Water Works at Mill Ruins Park and the Stone Arch Bridge. Fireworks are scheduled to begin around 10 p.m.
Prior Lake- Fireworks originally planned for the 4th were rescheduled to Wednesday, July 3 at 10 p.m. near Waltz's Beach at Lakefront Park. This is the 58th year the Prior Lake Association has hosted the holiday fireworks and according to officials, this is the first time in recent memory inclement weather has affected the event.
Separately, fireworks planned as part of Mystic Lake's "Rock and Rockets" event have been moved from July 4 to Friday, July 5 due to the weather.
Richfield – The city of Richfield’s Fourth of July fireworks display is set for 10 p.m. at Veterans Park, with more than “20 minutes of awe-inspiring pyrotechnics.”
St. Louis Park – Fireworks have been rescheduled for July 11 at Aquila Park.
St. Paul — If you're in the mood for fireworks and a ballgame, then head over to St. Paul for a Saints game! Every Friday there are fireworks after the game, so July 5 will be the game to attend.
Shakopee — Canterbury Park is celebrating the 4th on the 3rd. On Wednesday, the popular racetrack will have live music, pony rides, face painting and horse gambling starting at 4 p.m. The fireworks show will start shortly after the live racing — approximately 10 p.m.
Waconia — The city of Waconia pivoted its Independence Day plans to July 3, planning fireworks at dusk at Lake Waconia Regional Park.
White Bear Lake — If you're looking to cool off before you watch the fireworks, find a friend with a boat and head to White Bear Lake. The city will host a boat parade starting at Mahtomedi Beach at noon, followed by music at 8 p.m. and fireworks at 10 p.m.
