NEW BRIGHTON, Minn. — A second straight weekend with predicted temps in the mid-40s is reason to peel off a couple layers and celebrate.
That is, unless you're an Ice Castle.
The popular Twin Cities winter attraction at Long Lake Regional Park in New Brighton will be shutting down operations after Saturday's final visitors go home. Organizers say with spring just a few weeks away and temperatures well above freezing, they want to give visitors one more weekend to enjoy the frozen spectacle "before it melts."
Utah-based Ice Castles had six locations across North America this year: Minnesota, Wisconsin, Utah, New Hampshire, Colorado and Alberta, Canada.
The Twin Cities location opened Jan. 17, and has played host to tens of thousands of paying customers who came to experience thousands of hand-formed icicles, ice carved tunnels and slides, frozen thrones and towers that light up at night.
During it's 2020 run Ice Castles was forced to close one other time temporarily Feb. 2 due to warm temperatures.
